Build the backbone of Wellington's Peninsular army with 52 highly detailed 28mm hard plastic British centre company infantry. The steady redcoats who held the line, delivered devastating volleys, and fixed bayonets when the moment demanded — this set gives you a complete battalion's worth of figures with full command included.

Figures come unassembled and unpainted. Bases not included.

What's in the Box?

  • 52 x British Peninsular Centre Infantry figures
  • Stovepipe shakos — the standard headgear of the British infantry during the Peninsular War
  • Full command figures including officers in bicornes, standard bearers, NCOs, and drummers

Uniform & Appearance

The stovepipe shako dates these figures firmly to the Peninsular War period (1808–1814), before its replacement by the Belgic shako ahead of the Waterloo campaign. Officers are modelled in the bicorne — the traditional hat of British infantry officers of the era — providing a clear visual distinction from the rank and file and making them natural centrepiece models for your battalion.

Historical Background

The centre companies formed the bulk of every British infantry battalion — the steady, disciplined core that Wellington relied upon to hold ground and deliver the controlled musketry that broke French columns time and again across Spain and Portugal. From Talavera and Salamanca to Vitoria, it was the centre companies who stood in line, absorbed punishment, and delivered the volleys that defined British infantry tactics. This set lets you recreate those battalions in full, with enough figures for a complete unit and the command elements to lead them.

Compatible Factions

  • British Line Infantry centre companies (Peninsular War, 1808–1814)
  • King's German Legion Infantry (with appropriate painting)
  • Portuguese Line Infantry (with head and colour scheme adjustments)

Recommended Rulesets

  • Black Powder / Black Powder II — field as a standard British line infantry battalion; the 52-figure count gives you a full regiment or two smaller units depending on your basing preference
  • Sharp Practice (TooFatLardies) — use as line infantry groups with officer and NCO leaders for skirmish-level Peninsular War games
  • General d'Armée — represent British line infantry battalions at brigade level in large-scale Napoleonic engagements
  • Lasalle (2nd Edition) — ideal as British line infantry in the Napoleonic order of battle
  • The Silver Bayonet — individual figures make excellent soldiers, specialists, or named characters for this gothic horror skirmish game set during the Napoleonic Wars; the bicorne officer is a natural choice for a unit leader or investigator

Painting & Modelling Notes

  • The stovepipe shako is campaign-specific to the Peninsula — pair with the Flank Infantry set (also in stovepipe shakos) for a cohesive Peninsular War collection
  • The bicorne officer is a strong visual focal point — worth painting to a higher standard as a command centrepiece
  • Regimental facing colours on collars, cuffs, and turnbacks are the key differentiator between British line regiments — research your chosen regiment before painting for maximum historical accuracy
  • The drummer's distinctive reversed-colour jacket (facing colour body with red facings) is a rewarding painting challenge and adds immediate visual interest to the command stand
