What's in the Box?
- 12 x French Imperial Guard Lancer cavalry figures
- Parts to represent both the Polish (Blue) and Dutch (Red) Lancer regiments
- Extensive weapon, head, and equipment options for varied poses and unit compositions
Historical Background
Napoleon's Guard Lancers comprised two elite regiments: the 1st (Polish) Lancers in their distinctive blue uniforms, and the 2nd (Dutch) Lancers in red. Both regiments served with great distinction across the full sweep of the Napoleonic Wars — from the Peninsular campaign in Spain to the frozen plains of Russia, and finally at Waterloo in 1815, where they fought to the last in defence of the Emperor.
Conversion Potential
With a little conversion work, this set can also represent lancers from numerous other nations of the period:
- Prussian Lancers (Ulhans)
- Polish Line Lancers
- Lancers de Berg
- Russian Lancers
- Other allied or opposing lancer regiments of the Napoleonic Wars
Compatible Factions
- French Imperial Guard (Polish and Dutch Lancer regiments)
- French allied states and client kingdoms
- Prussian, Polish, Russian, and other Napoleonic lancer forces (with conversion)
Recommended Rulesets
- Black Powder / Black Powder II — field as elite Guard Lancers or line lancer cavalry; the 12-figure count gives you a full regiment or two smaller units depending on your basing preference
- Sharp Practice (TooFatLardies) — use as a elite cavalry force in skirmish-level Napoleonic scenarios across the Peninsular or Russian campaigns
- General d'Armée — represent Guard or line lancer brigades in large-scale Napoleonic battles
- Lasalle (2nd Edition) — ideal as Guard or elite lancer units in the Napoleonic order of battle
- The Silver Bayonet — individual lancer figures make striking specialist characters or mounted officers for this gothic horror skirmish game set during the Napoleonic Wars
Painting & Modelling Notes
- The blue (Polish) and red (Dutch) uniform options offer two very different painting projects from the same sprue — ideal for building a visually varied collection
- The lances, czapka helmets, and flowing pennants are key painting focal points that reward careful highlighting
- Conversion to Prussian Ulhans or Russian Lancers requires minimal work — primarily head and colour scheme changes
