The Picts — the "Painted People" — dominated northern Scotland from the 3rd century AD, raiding by land and sea and threatening Roman and Romano-British frontiers with long spears and fierce resolve. Centuries later, the Scots crossed from Ireland to found the kingdom of Dál Riata, eventually merging with the Picts under Kenneth MacAlpin to forge a unified Scotland. This versatile sprue covers both peoples across two of the most popular dark age wargaming eras.

What's on the Sprue

  • 6 hard plastic, multipart figures per sprue — buildable as Picts (Late Roman period) or Scots (Viking Age)
  • Weapons: long spears, javelins, swords, and axes
  • Distinctively shaped Pictish shields included
  • Variety of heads and shields for maximum modelling flexibility
  • Assemble as massed spear formations, skirmishers, or tight shield walls
  • Supplied unassembled and unpainted — bases not included

Historical Background

Fighting in close order with long spears and light javelin support, Pictish warriors could repel even cavalry. From the 5th century, the Scots of Dál Riata expanded eastward, and by the 9th century the two peoples had unified under a single crown — making these figures suitable for a wide sweep of early medieval Scottish history.

Game System Compatibility

  • Pillage (Victrix) — ideal for dark age warband gaming
  • SAGA — suitable for Pict, Scot, and northern British warbands
  • Ravenfeast — great for Viking Age Scottish forces
  • Lion Rampant — build a retinue for the early medieval period
  • Dragon Rampant, Kings of War — excellent alternative miniatures for Celtic or highland fantasy armies
  • Each purchase is for one sprue (6 figures)
